Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line is known for its “Fun Ships” concept: a casual, sociable cruise experience built around entertainment and time with family and friends. Poolside activities, comedy, live music and youth programs give that idea its practical shape.

Carnival Cruise Line

The family-oriented approach leaves room for shared activities, separate kids and teen programs, and adult retreats where available. Restaurants, outdoor attractions and evening venues differ by ship, so compare the features you would use before choosing.

What to Expect On Board Carnival

Carnival Cruise Line combines casual dining, organized activities, comedy and music with separate programs for children and teenagers. You can join a game, spend an afternoon by the pool or plan an evening around a show. The experience depends partly on the ship: restaurant choices, outdoor attractions and quieter spaces differ, even when the line's familiar programs carry the same names.

Included Meals and the Extras to Plan For

The basic fare covers your stateroom, meals in the main dining room and Lido buffet, many onboard activities and entertainment, and the regular Camp Ocean, Circle C and Club O2 programs. Non-bottled water, lemonade, iced tea and regular coffee and tea are among the included drinks served in the main dining room and Lido restaurant.

Budget separately for alcoholic drinks, sodas, specialty coffees, internet access, service gratuities, shore excursions and spa treatments unless your booking specifically includes them. Specialty meals and some activities also carry charges. Joining an included show or entering a lounge does not make drinks purchased there complimentary.

For dinner, Carnival offers assigned early or late seating and Your Time Dining, subject to availability. Assigned dining gives you a consistent time and table; Your Time Dining lets you check in when you are ready within its operating hours, with a possible wait. The Lido buffet provides a more casual alternative.

On ships that have them, Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina add included casual food options. Specialty venues offer a different meal experience, but their inclusion rules can depend on the ship, meal or number of visits. Check the restaurant details for your chosen ship before reserving rather than assuming that a familiar venue name always means the same charge.

Days Outside and Evenings Around the Ship

Pools, organized games and live music give you ways to fill the day without booking an excursion or paid activity. Outdoor facilities vary by ship, so compare the actual pool areas, water features and sports spaces if those will be a large part of your vacation. Attractions such as BOLT, the onboard roller coaster, are limited to selected ships and cost extra.

In the evening, Punchliner Comedy Club offers both family-friendly and adults-only performances, with admission included. On ships with Playlist Productions, singers and dancers perform musical stage shows; the productions differ by ship. You can also look for live music or karaoke instead of spending the whole evening in the theater. Use the Carnival HUB app to check the onboard program and age restrictions.

Children, Teenagers and Time for Adults

Camp Ocean provides supervised activities for children ages 2–11, divided into groups for ages 2–5, 6–8 and 9–11. Crafts, games and other group activities give children something separate from the family pool routine. Circle C serves ages 12–14, while Club O2 gives teens ages 15–17 their own social program.

Register children and teens for their programs before sailing. Participation is subject to program hours and capacity; the clubs are not continuous childcare. Night Owls is a separate late-night service with additional fees. Families with children under 2 should review Carnival's infant program and care arrangements separately, since Camp Ocean's regular age groups start at 2.

For adults, Serenity is an included outdoor retreat for guests 21 and older on ships equipped with it. Its layout and facilities vary, and drinks and other purchases remain separate. Spa treatments provide another option at an additional charge. These spaces let adults plan some time away from the family activity areas without treating the whole ship as adults-only.
