Belize, originally British Honduras, is a Central American country on the eastern coast. Belize is a land of mountains, swamps, and tropical jungle located south of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is bounded to the north by Mexico, to the west and south by Guatemala, and to the east by the Caribbean Sea. Belize may not fit neatly into either Latin America or the Caribbean, yet it is proud to be both.

Mayan remains such as Caracol, famous for its towering pyramid; lagoon-side Lamanai; and Altun Ha, just outside Belize City, can be found in Belize’s rainforest areas. Offshore, the enormous Belize Barrier Reef, which is dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands known as cayes, is home to a plethora of marine life. The longest reef system in the Western Hemisphere can be found in Belize, which has a virtually uninterrupted line of reefs and cayes spanning for 150 miles along its coast.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) private island getaway, Harvest Caye in southern Belize, is often regarded as the best island resort in the Caribbean. It spans 75 acres and is frequently regarded as the best Caribbean island resort. Harvest Caye is fully Belizean-operated, making it an authentic Central American destination with all of its restaurants, bars, and shops. A magnificent harbor, a prominent lighthouse, and the verdant greens of Belize’s woods await you upon arrival. This is not a tendering island, but the ship still anchors a short distance from the beach.

Belize City

Belize City is the business epicenter  and the largest city in Belize. It is situated on a short peninsula that juts out into the Caribbean Sea. Because of the shallow waters surrounding Belize City, most cruise ships will dock approximately four miles to the southeast. Passengers will be transferred from the cruise ship to the port via tender boats. The drop-off pier will be located along Fort Street at the Tourism Village. To get to Fort Street, head inland, past the covered stores.
